Should Ostelin® be avoided in any patients?

Care should also be taken with prescribing calcium and vitamin D to some special patient populations including those with renal impairment; sarcoidosis (a disease in which abnormal collections of inflammatory cells – granulomas – form in many organs of the body); patients taking drugs with a diuretic effect; patients taking other drugs containing vitamin D; and immobilised patients.

You should also exercise caution in people with renal calculus, and the small percentage of patients who already have a high calcium intake.
