Natural ways to boost your Vitamin D
The two main ways to get plenty of vitamin D are through sunlight and vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D is not only good for you on its own, but helps your body make the most of your calcium intake, which helps to form and maintain strong, healthy bones.
One of the best natural ways to ensure you’re getting plenty of vitamin D is to spend some time exposing bare skin to the sunlight and its ultraviolet B rays (UVB). However, there are a few things to remember if you’re planning on soaking up some sun:
- It doesn’t take long to get enough vitamin D for your daily intake. This will depend on your skin type, how much skin is exposed and where you’re located. The time of year is also a factor, as it takes less time to acquire vitamin D in summer than in winter.
- You don’t need to tan or burn to gain this essential vitamin. It may only take a few minutes in summer months.
- Unfortunately, diet alone cannot provide sufficient intake of vitamin D, but certain foods will help to boost levels you get naturally. These include fatty fish, beef liver, egg yolks, and some cereals, milk and orange juices.
