Does taking calcium supplements have a negative effect on a patient’s ateries? Is there any risk of calcium over dosing?
High dose calcium supplements (1000mg per day) may not be suitable for patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
At the Ostelin Vitamin D dose of 1000IU per day there are no reported cases of hypercalaemia (the adverse event occasionally seen with very high doses of Vitamin D). There is a comfortable margin of safety between therapeutic (1000IU per day) and toxic intakes (>30,000IU per day).
